Dear Colleague,<br>
<br>
We would appreciate if you could forward this email to students
interested in pursuing a PhD in high-energy astrophysics.<br>
<br>
Thanks in advance,<br>

===================================<br>
Applications are invited for 2 PhD positions in high energy<br>
astrophysics. The positions are joint between the group<br>
of Dr. Diego Altamirano at the University of Southampton (UK) and
the<br>
group of Prof. Mariano Mendez at the University of<br>
Groningen (NL). The candidate will spend about half of the time at
each<br>
institute and will receive a joint PhD diploma from both
universities.<br>
<br>
The PhD projects are mainly observational, and aim at answering<br>
long-standing questions in the area of accretion onto compact<br>
objects. The students will use data from state-of-the-art X-ray<br>
telescopes like Chandra, XMM-Newton, Nustar, Astrosat and<br>
Swift. Some projects may also include modelling and simulations.<br>
<br>
Candidates are expected to have a master in physics or astrophysics;<br>
good knowledge of Linux and programming will be valued. Experience
in<br>
X-ray data analysis is not necessary but would be considered an
asset.<br>

Applicants should<br>
also arrange for 3 letters of references (in PDF format) to be
mailed to the<br>
same email addresses. The positions are available to start right
