SUPERNOVA 2012bq
     A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, and R. Williams, California
Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M. Catelan,
Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; E. C. Beshore and S. M. Larson,
Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E. Christensen,
Gemini Observatory, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered
Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images:

SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2012bq Mar. 30.23 10 16 38.65 - 6 46 36.2 17.6 2".5 W, 1".0 N

Further CSS magnitudes for 2012bq: Mar. 1.34 UT, [19.8; Mar. 15.27, 19.5.

     L. Tomasella, S. Benetti, E. Cappellaro, A. Pastorello, P. Ochner, M.
Turatto, and S. Valenti, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto
Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that a spectrogram of 2012bq, obtained on
Mar. 31.81 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range
340-820 nm; resolution 2.4 nm), shows H-alpha and H-beta lines with a complex
shape superimposed on a relatively blue continuum. The Balmer lines consist
of a broad compoment (FWHM about 6000 km/s) in emission, superimposed by a
second component having a narrow-but-resolved emission profile (expansion
velocity about 1000 km/s and emission peaks measured at 683.8 and 506.0 nm).
>From these peaks, a redshift of 0.0415 is derived for the parent galaxy. A
comparison with a library of supernovae spectra via GELATO (Harutyuyan et al.
2008, A.Ap. 488, 383), gives a best fit with the type-IIn supernova 1995G
(Pastorello et al. 2002, MNRAS 333, 27).
